Crowd gathers in Times Square, in New York to protest the No Kings movement against Donald Trump, on March 28, 2026

Millions of people took to the streets this Saturday (28) in all 50 states of the United States to protest against President Donald Trump’s policies, in the largest mobilization of the “No Kings” movement. Organizers estimate that more than 9 million people participated in more than 3,200 planned events, surpassing previous demonstrations held in June and October last year.

“Reactionary nightmare”

In Minneapolis, the epicenter of the anti-immigration offensive at the beginning of the year, singer Bruce Springsteen gathered a crowd at the stadium and sang “Streets of Minneapolis”, a song written in honor of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two American citizens killed by immigration police (ICE) agents.

“His courage and determination showed us that this is still America, and that this reactionary nightmare and these invasions of American cities will not be tolerated,” Springsteen declared from the stage.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz thanked the people for opposing a “startup dictator,” while Senator Bernie Sanders said, “We will never accept a president who is a pathological liar, a kleptocrat, and a narcissist who undermines the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law every day.”

“Existential threat to freedoms”

In New York, actor Robert De Niro spoke to tens of thousands of protesters in Times Square: “Other presidents have tested the constitutional limits of his power, but none have posed such an existential threat to our freedoms and security. We must stop him.”

Protests also spread to Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Denver, San Francisco and Philadelphia, as well as cities in Europe such as Rome, Paris, Amsterdam and Madrid. In Washington, protesters carried signs reading “Put the crown down, clown” and “Regime change starts at home.”

War in Iran and migration policy

In addition to criticizing immigration policy and brutal ICE operations, protesters are protesting US participation in the war against Iran, which has already lasted four weeks and has constantly changing objectives and deadlines, as well as casualties of American military personnel.

Organizers report an increase in the number of anti-Trump events and people registering to vote in traditionally Republican states such as Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Utah, ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for November, when all deputies and some senators will be renewed.

Trump’s approval rating is down

According to Reuters, the protests come at a time when Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 36%, his lowest point since returning to the White House in January 2025.

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Marinella criticized Democrats for supporting the protests: “These anti-America rallies are where the most violent and delusional fantasies of the far left find a microphone.”

As millions marched, Trump spent the afternoon playing golf at his private club in Florida, symbolizing the gulf between the president and protesters demanding an end to what they call “monarchy” and the defense of American democracy.
