The re-elected president of Venezuela denounced this Tuesday (26) the “colonialist and imperialist complex” of the G7, after the member countries expressed support for the opponent Edmundo González Urrutia, who declares himself “elected president” of the country.
“Venezuela categorically rejects the absurd statement about the Venezuelan electoral and political process. They try, from the colonialist and imperialist complex, to prepare the ground for not recognizing the institutions and decisions of the Venezuelan people”, expressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We warn the G7 countries that this interventionist and arrogant attitude will not go unanswered. Venezuela will carry out a comprehensive review of its relations with each of the governments that make up this group, because respect for national sovereignty is non-negotiable”, highlights the statement.
In a blunt tone, the Venezuelan statement accused the G7 of acting as “arbiter of global democracy” while, according to Caracas, covering up its own internal problems. “These countries support genocides and encourage the spread of Nazi and fascist ideologies in Europe and the world,” the document states.
Venezuela responded that the group is trying to recreate a “Guaidó 2.0”, referring to Juan Guaidó, leader of the Venezuelan opposition who proclaimed himself “interim president” in 2019 and who was recognized by dozens of countries.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of the G7, made up of the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan and France, considered González the winner of the July 28 elections, in which President Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed re-elected.
