Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro announced on Monday (18) the mobilization of 4.5 million members of the Bolivarian militia to defend the homeland of what he classified as “threats” from the United States.

In a statement broadcast by TV, the Bolivarian leader said he will be activated a special defense plan to ensure coverage of the entire national territory with “prepared, activated and armed militias”.

The announcement occurs amid Washington’s hostility against Caracas. In early August, Donald Trump’s government raised from $ 25 million to $ 50 million the reward for information leading to Maduro’s capture or conviction, while launching a Caribbean anti -drug operation with military ships and aircraft.

A few days later, sources in Washington confirmed the sending of three destroyers with guided missiles, attack submarines, and 4,000 Marines to the region, in another demonstration of force that violates Venezuelan sovereignty.

Maduro reacted firmly and summoned the Chavista militancy and the popular bases to intensify the organization of peasant and workers militias.

“I will activate this week a special plan to ensure coverage, with more than 4.5 million militia, from all over the national territory,” he said. “Rifles and missiles to the peasant force! To defend the territory, sovereignty and peace of Venezuela. Missiles and rifles to the working class, to defend our homeland!” He said.

Bolivarian militia was created by Hugo Chavez and later integrated as one of the five components of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (Fanb). Officially, it brings together about 5 million reservists, who work in support of the Army in defense of the nation.

Maduro’s initiative reinforces the popular mobilization character of the Bolivarian Revolution in the face of the imperialist offensive, articulating workers and peasants in concrete tasks of protection of the territory.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López rejected the accusations launched by the United States and condemned the imposed rewards against Venezuelan leaders.

For him, Washington’s statements are “foolish” and the “fantasy, illegal and desperate capture offers to the best Hollywood western style.” The general pointed out that the measure represents a flagrant violation of international law and the principle of self -determination of peoples.

“US government cynicism has no limits, they want to give us lessons of democracy when their own government systematically disrespects their own laws, ruling arbitrary and capriciously,” said Padrino López.

According to him, the US offensive seeks to mask the failure of the anti-drug agencies. “What bothers us is that we defeated drug trafficking and exterminate the criminal bands in the country,” he added.

Venezuelan military mobilization is also accompanied by political demonstrations in Caracas and in various regions of the country. The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) promotes urban and community acts to support the government and reaffirm the national unity in the face of external threat.

In these initiatives, Chavista militancy calls the population to maintain vigilance and revolutionary discipline in the face of the advancement of US military provocations.

Diosda Cabello, interior minister and number two of Chavismo, stated that the Bolivarian forces are also on alert at the Venezuelan territorial sea. “We are also displeased in our sea to defend sovereignty,” he said.

Cabello added that the US Anti -Drug Agency is “the only drug cartel that operates in the light of the world,” denouncing the hypocrisy of Washington’s speech. For the Venezuelan government, the imperialist offensive is the most serious threat in recent years, but the response will be of popular unity and resistance.
