US Vice President Kamala Harris’s election campaign had raised US$200 million (R$1.1 billion) as of last Sunday (28) and signed up 170,000 new volunteers since becoming the main Democratic candidate for the November presidential race.

According to information from Kamala’s campaign for the White House, 66% of this amount was sent by new donors.

“In the week since we started, @KamalaHarris has raised $200 million. 66% of that is from new donors. We’ve signed up 170,000 new volunteers,” Harris’ deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty posted on X.

The amount raised by the virtual Democratic candidate’s campaign, in addition to the registration of thousands of volunteers, leads Kamala’s campaign to believe that the party’s voters will be mobilized in November.

Unlike in Brazil, voting is not mandatory in the United States, but optional. In other words, it is up to citizens to decide whether or not to vote, without being fined or having to provide a justification if they do not vote.

The question now hangs over independent voters, that is, those who do not have political predispositions to vote for Republicans or Democrats.

“The vice president’s drive and energy are real, as are the fundamentals of this race: This will be a very close election decided by a small number of voters in just a few states,” said Kamala’s campaign spokesman, Michael Tyler.

Polls conducted since Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee indicate a technical tie with Trump. A Wall Street Journal poll released Friday (25) puts Trump two percentage points ahead of Harris, while another by Reuters/Ipsos puts Harris ahead, also by two points.

Also last Friday, a Fox poll showed a tie in three states that are decisive for the governor in November: Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Another poll released this Sunday, by ABC News, shows Kamala being viewed positively by 43% of voters and former President Donald Trump with 36%.

US President Joe Biden ended his re-election bid on Sunday last week and endorsed Harris for the November vote against former Republican President Donald Trump.
