The President of the United States, Joe Biden, who will participate this Monday (17), in Rio de Janeiro, in the G20 Summit meeting, visited Manaus this Sunday (17). Before this first visit by a sitting North American president to the region, the White House announced that it will donate another US$50 million (R$289.5 million) to the Amazon Fund,
According to the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), other donations have already been made by the USA: US$3 million (R$14.9 million), in December 2023, and US$47 million (R$ 256.9 million), in August 2024. The new donations will still have to be approved by the North American Congress.

With Biden leaving the presidency, the expectation is to know whether President-elect Donald Trump will assume the country’s commitments in the environmental area.
In the capital of Amazonas, Biden announced that his administration had fulfilled its promise to increase US international climate financing, reaching more than US$11 billion per year by 2024.
The President of the United States arrived in Manaus accompanied by his daughter Ashley and granddaughter Natalie.
He flew by helicopter over Encontro das Águas, the Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve and the Amazon Museum (Musa), where he went after the tour.
