Israel uses war with Iran to advance on Lebanon

The Israeli Zionist regime began this Tuesday (3) a land incursion into southern Lebanon, expanding the war started by the United States against Iran. The land entry comes after successive air offensives and the exchange of attacks with Hezbollah, which have already resulted in dozens of deaths and the displacement of thousands of people.

Lebanese authorities stated that Israeli forces crossed the dividing line, called the Blue Line, drawn by the UN in 2000 to confirm the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, and advanced hundreds of meters into areas in the south of the country.

The movement took place under the cover of air strikes that hit different points in Lebanese territory.

The Lebanese government reported having been notified in advance about the operation and began discussing scenarios for expanding the offensive.

The attacks targeted residential areas in the south and southern suburbs of Beirut. Buildings were damaged and services were disrupted. More than 30,000 people left their homes after the intensification of bombings, according to data released by international agencies.

Public shelters in cities like Saida were full, and families spent hours stuck in traffic jams on highways connecting the south to the capital. Some of the displaced people slept in vehicles due to lack of accommodation.

The escalation occurs days after the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran. The confrontation, which until then focused on the Israel-Iran axis, now directly involves Lebanese territory.

Since the start of hostilities against Tehran, southern Lebanon has once again seen almost daily exchanges of attacks, and the land incursion consolidates the opening of an active front to northern Israel.

Hezbollah declared that Israel sought “open war” and asserted that “the era of patience is over.”

The group announced drone and rocket attacks against Israeli military bases in the north of the country and the Golan Heights, saying the actions were a response to bombings against Lebanese cities.
