The Israeli army carried out a massive attack on several points in central Syria on Monday (9), killing at least 18 people and leaving 40 injured. The bombing comes amid Tel Aviv’s preparations to start a war with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Syria’s health ministry called the Israeli attack a “brutal and barbaric aggression.” A Syrian security source told SANA news agency that “the Israeli enemy launched an air strike toward northwest Lebanon, targeting several military installations in the central region.” [da Síria]”.

Other sources told Reuters that the military targeted a military research center for the production of chemical weapons.

The attacks were concentrated in the provinces of Damascus, Hama, Tartus and Homs. The Scientific Research Center in Hama was also one of the targets.

Israel regularly targets military installations in Syria with alleged links to Iran and resistance groups that condemn the Zionist regime, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Since the beginning of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s intensified military operations in Palestine, Hezbollah, a supporter of the Palestinian cause, has been confronting the IDF.

War with Hezbollah in Lebanon

At the same time that Israel carries out actions in Syria and continues the massacre in the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his henchmen are preparing a military incursion into southern Lebanon to confront Hezbollah.

On Tuesday (9), Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said he told the country’s troops that his ministry is shifting focus from Gaza to the northern front (Lebanon’s southern border, where Hezbollah operates) and that they should prepare for a ground offensive there.

“Hamas as a military formation no longer exists. Hamas is engaged in a guerrilla war,” Gallant told foreign media, justifying the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

“The center of gravity is moving north [Líbano]we are approaching the completion of our missions in the south [Faixa de Gaza]but we have a task here that has not been accomplished, and that mission is to change the security situation and return residents to their homes,” he told reservists of the Oded Brigade in northern Israel.

Since the start of the exchange of aggression between Hezbollah and the Israeli army, tens of thousands of citizens have been forced to leave their homes in the north of the Jewish state. The flight of civilians was one of the reasons for the latest protests against the Netanyahu government.
