Initial unemployment insurance claims in the US total 238 thousand

Initial claims for unemployment insurance in the week ending June 15 reached 238 thousand in the United States, according to data released by the US Department of Labor this Thursday (June 20, 2024). Here is the full report (PDF – 309 kB).

There was a reduction of 5,000 from the previous week’s level of 243,000.

Even so, the number is above the 235 thousand projected by analysts consulted by The Wall Street Journal.

The number of continuous requests of 1.828 million came above the expected 1.810 million and the previous revised figure of 1.813 million.
