Argentine President calls character an “anarcho-capitalist” and references the song “Eu Quero Apenas (Um Milhão de Amigos)”

Argentine President Javier Milei compared himself to Brazilian singer Roberto Carlos and said that “Zorro”, character from the Walt Disney Studios series, is “anarcho-capitalist”. The speech was made during the celebrations of the 170th anniversary of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, this Thursday (11.Jul.2024).

Assessing the country’s economic situation and responding to critics of his administration, Milei said he does not intend to “being Roberto Carlos”but which has the support “of more than 15 million Argentines”in reference to music “I Just Want (A Million Friends)”, of the Brazilian singer.

He also quoted extensively from one of his favorite fictional characters, Zorro. “I have great admiration for the series El Zorro. He is an anarcho-capitalist hero who is often unfairly demonized by the media. If the media were in the hands of Captain Monasterio, Zorro would be portrayed as a terrible criminal.”he stated.

Captain Monasterio is the main antagonist in the story of Zorro. He represents the oppressive authority that the character faces, using his skill and intelligence to challenge the corrupt government and protect the oppressed.

“In El Zorro there was no paper money. When someone from the port came to trade, he brought gold. It was an insurmountable obstacle for the criminals. El Zorro fought these criminals. If they had succeeded, trade would have collapsed and the quality of life would have deteriorated.”he stated.

“El Zorro defended private property and the well-being of the townspeople, confronting Captain Monasterio, who collected taxes. A true hero, a fabulous character.”he declared.
