Gabriel Boric, Irací Hassler e Lula

The mayor of Santiago, Irací Hassler, met this morning with the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who has been in Chile since Sunday to sign several bilateral agreements.

Lula met with the mayor for 30 minutes at the hotel where he is staying, the Ritz Carlton, in Las Condes. The conversation was in Portuguese, as Hassler is the daughter of a Brazilian mother and a Chilean father and was elected in 2021 by the Chilean Communist Party.

The Brazilian leader was awarded the Santiago Medal in recognition of his fight to lift people out of poverty and hunger and for public education. The Brazilian president gave her a shell-shaped bag made by artisans from Ceará.

After the meeting, the communist leader said: “We had an important meeting with President Lula, where we shared especially our vision on education, on the neighborhood care system in Santiago and also on the care policies he is promoting in Brazil, public security as a fundamental issue for our countries and for the city’s perspective.”
