Hamas communicated to mediators from Qatar and Egypt this Tuesday (June 11, 2024) its positive response to the proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, made by the United States and approved by the UN Security Council (United Nations). . The group’s response, however, included some “comments” about the agreement which were not detailed.

According to the statement made in Telegram, Hamas and Islamic Jihad’s observations prioritize the interests of the Palestinian people, the need for a complete halt to the conflict in Gaza and the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces from the territory of the Gaza Strip.

In the note, the groups also expressed their desire to “negotiate positively to reach an agreement”emphasizing that ending the war is his priority.

The foreign ministries of Qatar and Egypt, acting as mediators, confirmed receipt of Hamas’ response and are in the process of analyzing it. Despite the reservations made, Hamas said it was willing to continue negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement.

The ceasefire was proposed by the United States and approved by the UN Security Council on Monday (June 10). The plan presented proposes a permanent end to the war implemented in stages. The resolution received strong support, with 14 votes in favor and one abstention, from Russia.

Israel says it will only agree to temporary pauses and that it will only end its operation when Hamas is completely defeated and its military capabilities are rendered unviable.
