Democrats begin their party convention this Monday (19) in Chicago (Illinois) to confirm Kamala Harris’ candidacy for President of the United States.
The city will have a reinforced security scheme during the event, which will be held from Monday, the 19th, to Thursday, the 22nd, at the United Center, in the west zone. The arena is the home of the Chicago Bulls basketball team.
A survey released this Sunday (18) by the Washington Post newspaper puts Kamala with 49% of voting intentions, ahead of her main opponent, Republican Donald Trump, who has 45%. The margin of error is 2.5%.
In Chicago, Democrats hope to build on the momentum their campaign has gained since becoming the nominee. During the convention, key Democratic leaders will give speeches, including former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, as well as President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, who ran for president in 2016.
Organizers expect more than 5,000 Democratic delegates, high-profile guests and party officials from around the country to attend. The convention will also have 12,000 volunteers and about 50,000 visitors. Thousands of reporters are expected to cover the event.
For both Republicans and Democrats, national conventions symbolize the party’s unity around a single candidate for the final stage of the presidential race.
