The government of Cuba thanked, this Monday (9), the government of Mexico and President Claudia Sheinbaum for sending humanitarian aid to the country. The measure is due to the expansion of the blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States with the aim of generating a crisis in the Caribbean country.
Throughout its administration, the Donald Trump government has spared no effort to try to destabilize the island, which has remained for 67 years as a revolutionary symbol, showing that a new society is possible. In this way, Washington’s initiative must once again be thwarted through international solidarity with the Cubans.
The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, thanked the act: “Thank you, Mexico. For the solidarity, for the affection, for the always warm embrace for Cuba.”
In a statement, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs deeply thanked the support and “solidarity and support in these very difficult times that our people are experiencing as a result of the economic war imposed by the empire.”
Humanitarian aid includes 814 tons of food, including milk, powdered milk, meat products, biscuits, beans, rice, tuna, sardines and vegetable oil, as well as personal hygiene items. The Mexican Navy is responsible for transportation via two ships.

The vessels left the Port of Veracruz at 8 am and are expected to arrive on the island in four days. In addition to the aid on the way, more than 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans are still awaiting shipment.
“The people of Mexico keep alive their tradition of solidarity with the people of Latin America and, in particular, with the people of Cuba,” highlighted the Mexican government, in a statement.

US pressure
With the kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro and the blockade of Venezuelan oil shipments to Cuba, the island’s energy and economic situation deteriorated.
The White House’s neo-colonizing idea for Cuba is part of the “Trump Corollary”, its interpretation of the “Monroe Doctrine” that establishes the Western Hemisphere as an area of exclusive US influence. Other attacks have been on Greenland and the Panama Canal, in addition to the ‘tariff’ with effects across the entire planet.
Thus, Trump puts an entire (Cuban) population at humanitarian risk with his perverse attempt to expand his influence, while attacking one of the symbols of global socialism and the anti-imperialist struggle.

In the last month, the island has been faced with a lack of fuel, a situation that affects public transport and aviation. In a text published in the Cuban newspaper Granmait is reported that the lack of fuel due to the US blockade affects children’s attendance at schools, especially those who depend on specialized care.
Otherwise, the sanctions imposed prevent the country from purchasing 538 electric and conventional wheelchairs for children with mobility disabilities and 331 Special Education schools from having access to essential materials: “It is revolting to know that the set of laws imposed by the US government’s economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Island prevents the full development of Cuban girls, boys and teenagers”, warns the newspaper.
