A formal session will be held at 11am; Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and ambassadors from both countries participate
The 200 years of Brazil-United States diplomatic relationship will be celebrated in a solemn joint session of Congress, on Tuesday (May 28, 2024), at 11 am. The countries maintain historical political, economic and social connections.
The request for the solemn session was presented by the president of the Brazil-USA Parliamentary Group in the Senate, senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB), by the president of the Brazil-USA Parliamentary Group in the Chamber, deputy Vinicius Carvalho (Republicanos-SP) and by the president of the Brazil-USA Parliamentary Front in the Chamber, deputy Eduardo da Fonte (PP-PE).
The session will have the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira; the Brazilian ambassador to the United States, Maria Luíza Ribeiro Viotti and the United States ambassador to Brazil, Elizabeth Frawley Bagley.
“Over these 200 years, our countries have developed a robust and multifaceted collaboration, covering vital areas such as defense, trade, science and technology, education and culture. Without a doubt, diplomatic ties between Brazil and the USA have enabled our countries to develop into two of the most diverse and prosperous democracies in the world.”justify the applicants.
On May 26, 1824, Brazil’s independence was recognized by the United States and diplomatic relations were established. Currently, North Americans are the 2nd largest importer of Brazilian products.
For 2024, a series of activities are expected to be organized by the 2 countries, including seminars, exchange programs and cultural events.
