Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups wheat flour

  • ¾ cup cocoa powder

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda

  • ¼ teaspoon of salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 2 big eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

  • 1 cup of milk

  • ½ cup hot water

  • chocolate ganache (optional)

  • Brigadeiro or other filling of your choice

  • Sprinkles, chocolate shavings or other decoration (optional)

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease a medium-sized rectangular tin.
  • In a bowl, sift the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt. 
    Reserve.
  • In another large bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. 
    Add the vanilla essence and mix.
  • On low speed, add the flour mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk. 
    Start and end with the flour mixture. 
    Mix until smooth.
  • Add the hot water to the dough and mix carefully until fully incorporated.
  • Pour the batter into the greased tin and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely.
  • When the cake is cold, cut it into layers or into small pieces.
  • In sterilized glass jars, place a layer of cake, followed by a layer of chocolate ganache or brigadeiro. 
    Repeat the layers until you fill the pot, ending with a layer of ganache or brigadeiro.
  • Decorate with sprinkles, chocolate shavings or other embellishments, if desired.
  • Close the jars tightly and refrigerate for a few hours before serving.
