China’s Ministry of Commerce called the 100% tariffs imposed by the United States on Chinese products hypocritical this Sunday (12). “If the US persists in acting unilaterally, China will resolutely take corresponding measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests,” says the Chinese Ministry of Commerce this Sunday (12).

For the Chinese, threatening to impose high tariffs at any time is not the right way to deal with China. “Our position on tariff wars is consistent: we don’t want to fight, but we are not afraid to fight,” the ministry said.

“Beginning November 1, 2025 (or sooner depending on any future actions or changes taken by China), the United States of America will impose a 100% tariff on China in addition to any tariffs they are currently paying,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

Trump called the Asian country’s control over rare earth elements “surprising” and “very hostile”.

In response, the Chinese ministry says the management is a reaction to a series of measures by the United States since trade negotiations between the two countries last month.

China recalled that Chinese and American trade teams held a new round of talks in Madrid, Spain, in September, following previous discussions in Switzerland, Britain and Sweden.

“American stocks plunged to their worst single-day performance since the ‘tariff war’ in April following Trump’s announcement of tit-for-tat tariffs.”

“Our position on a tariff war remains consistent – we don’t want one, but we are not afraid of one,” the ministry says.
