China is expected to arrive in 2030 with 60,000 kilometers of high -speed railroads. By the end of 2024, 48,000 kilometers had already been built, an extension that took only 15 years to be reached and is already considered the largest in the world. Today, the system carries 16 million people daily.

Currently, according to official data, China’s high -speed railways already provide most of passenger railways and connect more than one hundred municipalities. The government’s goal is that 97% of cities with more than 500,000 inhabitants will be covered by 2030.

Earlier this year, China revealed a new high -speed train prototype that is already classified as the fastest in the world, being able to travel 450 kilometers per hour. The model (CR 450), developed by the China State Railway Group, surpassed another model of the same company, launched in 2017, which was already in front of 350 km/h. Another model in which the Chinese has bet is that of magnetic levitation – which reaches up to 500 km/h.

Railway network

Considering the total railroads that cut the extensive country, the mesh has 162,000 km and is expected to go to 180,000 in five years, according to state -owned China Railway. Today, it is the second country with the largest railway network in the world; The first is the United States, with over 200,000 kilometers.

According to the company, in 2024, the Chinese rail network recorded a record of 4.08 billion passenger trips, an annual increase of almost 11%. Projections indicate that this number will continue to grow and can reach 4.28 billion trips by 2025.

Also according to China Railway, the country’s investment in fixed assets in the railway sector is expected to reach 590 billion yuans (US $ 82.08 billion) by 2025, with a forecast of 2,600 kilometers of new railways throughout the year.

The rapid and robust expansion of this type of transport is part of the development plan established by China, which, under the government of the Communist Party, aims to integrate different regions of the country, one of the largest in the planet. Such planning has the state as a driver and considered the country’s interests and not companies as central.

Another important point was technology transfer agreements signed with field multinationals, which allowed the country to know and improve the system and build high performance networks in a few years.
