Beijing is preparing for one of the greatest demonstrations of military power in his recent history. Next September 3, Heavenly Peace Square will be the scene of a parade that celebrates the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II – called in China the “War of Resistance of the People against Japanese aggression and World Antifascist War”.

The Chinese government confirmed the presence of 26 foreign leaders, including names that symbolize an alternative front to the International Order led by the West: Vladimir Putin, president of Russia; Kim Jong-un, leader of North Korea; and Dilma Rousseff, former president of Brazil and current leader of the Novo Development Bank (Banco dos Brics).

Power parade and geopolitical messages

The event, which will be about 70 minutes long, will feature 10,000 soldiers, more than 100 state -of -the -art aircraft and weapons, including fighters, drones, antimysis defense systems and hypersonic weapons. Chinese authorities emphasize that all the material to be displayed is of national production and is already in active service.

Experts claim that the military parade goes beyond the historical celebration: it is also a strategic message of Beijing. By placing Putin and Kim at the top of the guest list, Xi Jinping not only the strength of Asian alliances, but also a direct response to Western pressure-from Ukraine war to US military containment in Indo-Pacific.

The guest list also includes Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East heads, as well as Miguel Díaz-Canel, from Cuba, and Emmerson Mnangagwa, from Zimbabwe-countries that, like China itself, suffer pressures or sanctions from the West.

For analysts, the parade consolidates a coalition of countries interested in redesigning the global order based on multilateralism and alternatives to Washington’s led system.

Brazil in the Chinese board

Dilma Rousseff’s participation reinforces the symbolic dimension of the Brazilian presence. At the head of the BRICS Bank, the former president must accompany the parade alongside Putin, Kim and Xi. Also confirmed in Beijing the special advisor of the Presidency of Brazil, Celso Amorim, and the ambassador Marcos Galvão.

Although Brazil maintains strategic relations with both China and the US, Dilma’s presence at the event strengthens Brasilia’s image as an active actor on the emerging axis that seeks greater autonomy against the West.

With the rapid modernization of his army and the search for strategic allies, China uses the memory of World War II to legitimize its position as a stabilizing and protagonist power in the redefinition of a world order based on US -threatened multilateralism since 1945.
