Formally announced last Wednesday, July 24, in the presence of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Global Alliance aims to unite public policies and social technologies that have proven effective in combating hunger and poverty, as well as countries and local governments that need such measures and government, multilateral or private funds to provide financing. Currently in the adhesion phase, the initiative will be officially launched during the G20 Summit of Heads of State, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, on November 18 and 19 of this year.

The video calls for everyone to participate. It features important sports figures, such as world soccer champion Raí, Olympic and world judo champion Rafaela Silva, multiple world champion and Olympic gold medalist in marathon swimming, Ana Marcela, and Bruna Alexandre, the first Brazilian to compete in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. They take turns with athletes from several other sports.

“We are athletes and we compete with passion and determination, but outside the arenas we are united by a greater cause: the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty. In the world, there are 735 million people going hungry and 2.3 billion in a situation of food insecurity. We know what it is to fight for something bigger than ourselves. We also know that together we are stronger. With countries united, we can fight to guarantee food and nutrition for all people,” says one of the excerpts.
