Two ships carrying around 800 tons of humanitarian aid sent by Mexico arrived in Cuba on Wednesday (12), amid the tightening of restrictions imposed by the United States on the island.
The shipment reinforces the ties of solidarity between the two countries in the face of the energy and supply difficulties faced by the Cuban people.
The cargo was received at the port of Havana by the Minister of Interior Trade, Betsy Díaz Velázquez, who thanked the Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum, for the gesture of support. According to the minister, the assistance comes at a time of increased US measures against the island.
“At times when we are facing difficulties, when the intensification of measures imposed by the United States government and the attempt to suffocate us is intensifying, this is even more grateful,” said Díaz.
The Papaloapan ship transported around 536 tons of food and hygiene items, including milk, meat, beans, rice, vegetable oil and personal products. The ship Isla Holbox carried approximately 277 tons of powdered milk, expanding supplies in the midst of the crisis.
In a post on social media, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel publicly thanked the Mexican leader.
“Thank you, Mexico. Thank you, dear Claudia Sheinbaum. The humanitarian aid from our Mexican brothers is valuable not only as a material burden. They include solidarity, friendship and the exemplary history of sovereignty and respect for other people’s rights that distinguish Mexico”, he wrote.

The shipment takes place amid the energy blockade intensified by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, which has worsened the crisis on the island and affected the supply of essential inputs.
The Mexican government has reiterated its defense of Cuban sovereignty and its opposition to policies that promote hostility against the Caribbean country. This week’s gesture is part of this diplomatic position and reinforces bilateral cooperation in a scenario of increasing external pressure.
