Winner of an Emmy and an honorary Oscar, he was 88 years old; the cause of death would be an unreported “long illness”

Canadian actor, Donald Sutherland, aged 88, died this Thursday (June 20, 2024) in Miami, Florida (USA). The death was announced by one of the actor’s sons, Kiefer Sutherland, on social media. The cause would be a “long illness” not informed.

The actor was awarded an Emmy, the main American TV award, in 1995. He was never nominated for an Oscar from the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, despite receiving an honorary statuette for his career in 2017.

“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think he is one of the most important actors in the history of cinema. He was never intimidated by a role, be it good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and you can never ask for anything more than that. A life well lived”said Kiefer Sutherland on his profile on X (formerly Twitter).

Sutherland is survived by his wife, Francine Racette, and his children Roeg, Rossif, Angus, Kiefer and Rachel, as well as 4 grandchildren.
