Last Thursday (15), Cuba honored 32 combatants killed in a US military attack against Venezuela.

An act of solidarity and support for Cuba will be held this Saturday (24), in São Paulo, bringing together Cubans residing in Brazil, solidarity activists and representatives of trade unions and political entities. Convened by the National Association of Cubans Residents in Brazil (Ancreb–SP), the activity takes place at 3:30 pm, at the headquarters of the Central dos Trabalhadores do Brasil (CTB), at Rua Cardoso de Almeida, 1843, in the Sumaré neighborhood, and is part of a context of high political tension in Latin America.

According to Ancreb, the mobilization responds to what the entity classifies as “a decisive moment in the situation”, marked by attacks by imperialism on Venezuela and threats of war and violence against Cuba by the United States. The call highlights the need for non-action in this scenario and proposes a joint act against external aggression against both countries.

In addition to Ancreb, the Cuban Consulate and the Paulista Movement of Solidarity with Cuba participate in the event, consolidating the event as a space for political articulation and international denunciation.

The role of the Brazilian trade union movement
By hosting the activity, CTB reaffirms its tradition of internationalist solidarity. For Carlos Rogério Nunes, deputy secretary of Social Policies, Sports and Leisure at the center, the initiative expresses a historic position of Brazilian trade unionism. According to him, the CTB is a defender of people’s self-determination and, therefore, welcomes the act called for by Cubans residing in the country.

The choice of the union headquarters is not accidental: it reinforces the reading that the defense of national sovereignty and the fight against imperialism are part of a common agenda among Latin American workers.

According to the president of the CTB, Adilson Araújo, it is imperative to strengthen the resistance struggle against the imperialist siege imposed on the Latin American and Caribbean continent, especially Cuba and the Cuban people.

“Every day the American intention against the freedom and self-determination of peoples and Nations becomes more evident. In this way, we need to reinforce the most vigorous repulsion against neocolonialist interference in the continent perpetrated by the USA”, he declared to Red Portal.

In the opinion of the union leader, Donald Trump’s government is trying to reverse the economic decline of the United States by using force against the people and nations of Latin America and the Caribbean.

“The fight against imperialism and war, in defense of peace and the self-determination of nations, enshrined in international law that the United States is trampling on, is the order of the day. The Brazilian working class and the peoples and nations of Our America must rise up and join forces to defeat imperialism and ensure that the destinies of nations are sovereignly defined by their people. No War! Yes Peace!”, added Araújo.

One of the central axes of the mobilization is the denunciation of the social and economic effects of the blockade imposed on Cuba. The organization of the act maintains that the sanctions go beyond the diplomatic plan and directly affect the living conditions of the Cuban population, affecting access to medicines, basic inputs and economic development.

In this sense, the event seeks to strengthen ties between the people of Brazil and Cuba, defending the international unity of workers as a tool of political resistance.

Cuban diaspora and recent memory
The mobilization in São Paulo is in line with a series of recent demonstrations by the Cuban diaspora in Brazil. In statements released in January, Ancreb expressed solidarity with the families of the 32 Cubans killed in defense of Venezuela’s sovereignty, classifying the episode as part of an escalation of hostility promoted by the United States.

The public notes emphasize mourning, homage and rejection of external threats, in addition to reaffirming values such as unity, peace and justice, often associated with the political identity of the organized diaspora.

Messages from Ancreb members highlighted the internationalist character of the Cubans killed on an official mission in Venezuela, interpreting their deaths as an expression of commitment to the self-determination of the people. For the entity, the solidarity shown in Brazil is also a gesture of patriotism and historical continuity of Cuban resistance.

Organization and engagement
To participate in the event, it is necessary to confirm your presence in advance, sending your name and CPF to the organization via email [email protected]. The requirement reflects the effort to structure and coordinate the mobilization, which aims to combine political demonstration, collective dialogue and public demonstration of support.

More than a one-off event, the event in São Paulo symbolizes the persistence of an active solidarity network around Cuba in Brazil. In a context of geopolitical tensions and narrative disputes, the initiative reaffirms international solidarity as a conscious political choice — and the sovereignty of the people as a principle that continues to mobilize unions, social movements and communities in the Latin American diaspora.
