Iran drew a line on the ground and bombarded Israel with around 180 ballistic missiles this Tuesday (1). It was a show of force hours after the Israeli army announced a ground incursion into southern Lebanon, amid the war against Hezbollah, one of Tehran’s main allies.

The action was the largest military attack in Iran’s history against Israel and served as a warning for Tel Aviv to stop the murders against the Shiite population in Lebanon and the leaders of Hezbollah and other leaders of the so-called Axis of Resistance (Hamas, in the Gaza Strip). , and the Houthis in Yemen, for example).

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the action was “only part of our capability” and urged Israel “not to clash with Iran.”

Local sirens sounded around 7:40 pm (1:40 pm in Brasília), along with alerts from cell phone applications. In the sky, missiles heading west toward Tel Aviv were pursued by interceptors from the Iron Dome system.

However, unlike the attack carried out by Iran in April, when the ayatollahs took revenge for the death of generals in Damascus, (Syria), several missiles reached Israeli soil. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (GRC) said it attacked three military bases and claimed that 90% of the missiles hit their target.

Although the alleged Iranian effectiveness is doubtful, the fact is that Tehran gave a surgical response to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rhetorical as well as military threats.

In recent weeks, the prime minister and leader of the far-right coalition has increased his tone and launched a series of deadly attacks against Lebanon. More than 1,700 people died in two weeks of intense bombing.

Among the victims is Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, the commander of the al-Radwan Force, the elite unit of the Shiite group, Ibrahim Aqil, and at least ten other high-ranking members.

In addition to military operations, Netanyahu has also been stretching the rhetoric. Moments before the invasion of southern Lebanon, the prime minister made new threats to Iran in a video published on social media and broadcast in Israeli press outlets.

The far-right leader stated that the Iranian people will be free “sooner than anyone imagines”, leaving the possibility of direct actions against the leaders in Tehran in the air.

This Tuesday, shortly after the Iranian attack on Israel, Netanyahu classified the action as a “big mistake” and stated that Iran will “pay” for the attack.

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari announced Wednesday morning (local time) that his country’s air force “will continue to heavily bomb the Middle East.”

The United States, which helped its ally “shoot down Iranian missiles,” said it wants to “coordinate” with the Israelis on a response to its Iranian archenemy.

In response, General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the Iranian Army, threatened this Wednesday (2) to bomb “all infrastructure” in Israel if the Jewish State retaliates.

“If the Zionist regime, which has gone mad, (…) wants to continue with these crimes or act against our sovereignty and our territorial integrity, an operation like tonight (Tuesday) will be repeated with greater intensity and all infrastructure will be hit,” Bagheri told Iranian state TV.
