Documents obtained by Axios show photos and captions of the path the president must take during ceremonies.
Documents released by the digital newspaper Axios on Sunday (7.Jul.2024) show that the team of the President of the United States, Joe Biden (Democrat, center-left), 81 years old, prints images and captions in large letters to help him during events.
According to the newspaper, since the debate against Donald Trump (Republican, center-right) for the presidential elections on June 27, Democrats who attended and helped organize events for the president have questioned whether the details provided by his team were in consideration of Biden’s limitations due to his age.
The document obtained by Axios shows two large-size printed images with the caption “path to the podium” (in free translation)
A White House official said the practice is common in organizing official events. Two other aides who worked with Biden while he was vice president (2009-2017) said the preparation documents were different, with maps of the event locations instead of images and captions.
High levels of detail and precision are essential to presidential work—regardless of who is president—and these are basic approaches used by any modern advance staff, including the vice president’s office and the agencies.”White House spokesman Andrew Bates told the Axios.
Kirsten Allen, a spokeswoman for Vice President Kamala Harris, said the documents are “standard logistics summary materials and photos for any authority”.
President Biden’s behavior has once again been questioned after his performance in the debate with Trump. At times, the US chief executive was unable to articulate sentences and kept his mouth open.
After the event, Democratic Party members and campaign donors called on Biden to drop his bid for reelection, expressing concern about the president’s ability to serve a second term.
Biden is the oldest president in US history. If re-elected, he would end his second term at 86 years old. Under pressure to drop out because of his age, he has said several times that he will remain in the race.
Biden opponents have used videos in which the president appears unsure of where to enter and exit the stage during events as a way to suggest he is not mentally fit for office.
