This Sunday (29), the Brazilian Navy began setting up a field hospital in Venezuelan territory to care for victims of the earthquakes that hit the country last week. The structure was assembled in La Guaira.

The structure was transported in a joint operation with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and is part of the humanitarian mission mobilized by the federal government in response to the disaster.

The installation of the advanced unit took place at the Maracay air base, one of the strategic areas for distributing aid and treating the injured.

According to Brazilian authorities, the structure has the capacity to provide emergency care, surgeries and clinical stabilization of patients in serious condition. The field hospital has two power generators and an air conditioning system.

Planalto intends to maintain the structure for at least 15 days. The deadline may be extended, depending on the humanitarian situation in the neighboring country.

The work is being coordinated in direct contact with the Venezuelan Ministries of Defense, Health and Risk Management. Due to the dynamics, local health services must refer patients to the Brazilian field hospital.

Brazil has also been providing search services for missing people since last Saturday (27). According to the Brazilian government, several groups are taking turns searching, in conjunction with Venezuelan authorities in La Guaira.

The mobilization was authorized by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), linked to Itamaraty.

The Venezuelan authorities’ expectation is that rescue work will advance throughout this week, especially in areas where thousands of people are still missing.

So far, around 30 countries have sent teams to assist with operations in Venezuela, including Cuba, Paraguay and India.

Also this Monday (29), a new earthquake of magnitude 4.6 was recorded in Venezuela. According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter was in Caraballeda, on the north coast of the country, about 30 kilometers from Caracas.

According to the most recent bulletin from the Venezuelan government, the death toll rose to 1,719. In total, 5,034 people were injured, and another 15,866 people were outside their homes.
