On a visit to Iraq this Sunday (28), Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran will fully control access to the Strait of Hormuz due to new attacks carried out by the United States against the country, in violation of the peace agreement. Araghchi also said that attempts to break this decision will prolong the situation of instability in the region. The minister spoke during a press conference, as reported by the agency Tasnim. The time zone in the region is six hours ahead of Brasília.
The minister also highlighted that the visit to Iraq takes place at a “sensitive” time and stated that this is his first trip after the attacks by the United States and Israel on the country. He thanked Iraq’s condemnation of the attacks carried out against Iran and the “great support” given by the Iraqi government. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein reinforced that support for Iran will be maintained.
With the return of bombings to Iran, especially in the south of the country, the Islamic Republic carried out retaliations against the United States, attacking American military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
In a post on the social network
The United States War Department’s account on X reported that it attacked Iran again, in the early hours of Sunday, in retaliation for the bombings against its military bases.
Breach of agreement
Also on Saturday (27), the Iranian government released a statement condemning the attacks carried out by the United States on Friday night (26).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attacks hit coastal surveillance facilities and represent a violation of the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and the agreement signed on June 18.
Based on this non-compliance, according to the Iranian government, the attacks carried out by the country occurred in self-defense. Furthermore, Iran asked that countries in the region not allow the use of their territories for military actions and requested support from the UN Security Council in the face of the violations that occurred.
