The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) denounced this Friday (26) the occurrence of new attacks by the United States against the Strait of Hormuz region.
The Guard stated that these bombings will not “go unanswered” and that it “will be quick and decisive, at the time and place we choose”, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.
The attack ordered by US President Donald Trump was in response to Tehran’s alleged ceasefire violation.
This is one of the first military actions taken by the United States against Iran since June 17, when the two countries signed an initial peace agreement with the aim of ending the war, which began in February.
The Central Command of the United States Armed Forces (CENTCOM) reported, in a post on the social network X, that it carried out drone attacks against vessels used to store Iranian missiles and drones, as well as coastal radar systems located on the country’s southern coast.
According to the post, Iran’s alleged “dangerous behavior” would have harmed “freedom of navigation, as trade increasingly flows through this vital international trade corridor.”
“CENTCOM forces continue to provide coordination and support for the safe passage of commercial vessels transiting the strait. The U.S. military remains present and vigilant to ensure that all aspects of the Iran agreement are respected, adhered to, and remain in full force,” he added.
The attacks occurred after Trump accused Iran, on Friday afternoon, of attacking vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, the Iranian regime has used at least four attack drones against vessels. One of them reportedly hit a cargo ship, while the other three were intercepted by US forces.
Speaking to reporters earlier, Trump had suggested that the United States could respond to the Iranian attack on the cargo ship.
In a post on the social network Truth Social, the US president stated that the attack represented a “total violation” of the ceasefire agreement signed between the two countries.
Earlier this Friday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard issued a statement stating that crossing Hormuz would be possible “only via routes announced” by the country itself.
On Thursday (25), Oman announced new routes to facilitate the movement of vessels in the region. According to the Revolutionary Guards, the vessels, regardless of whether they sail through Iranian or Omani waters, must be “in full coordination with the Iranian authorities”. If they fail to comply with the determination, “Iran will act accordingly”.
The position was reinforced by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi. On social media, he reiterated that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz “cannot be guaranteed for vessels transiting with ambiguous agreements, parallel routes or decision-making outside the considerations of Iran as a coastal state.”
